New Technology Helps Map the Ebola Crisis

Health workers and emergency teams are converging on areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo to contain the latest outbreak of Ebola with a new experimental vaccine that has proven to contain the virus. On Monday they began by vaccinating health workers and will then focus on the areas where the virus has been confirmed. 

But while medical breakthroughs are helping to contain the health outbreak, it turns out that when it comes to logistics, accurately pinpointing where some of the outbreaks are, current maps of the area are inconsistent and outdated.  

Ed Yong, science writer at The Atlantic, has written about attempts at digital mapping and the team of cartographers who are working to help solve that problem.
